Character.
Character Name:
Lucas Spencer
Age/Birthdate: 17 / December 1st
House/Year: Gryffindor / 7
Gryffindors born under this sign are exuberant and full of good humour. They are intelligent, but often do not make the best of students, because they would rather be outside enjoying the fresh air or off studying on their own. They aren't good at diplomatic silence; if a teacher makes a mistake, the Gryffindor Sag will draw attention to it right away, usually loudly and in front of the entire class. At length. These students can get into trouble - their hot tempers make for easy dueling matches, and their impish senses of humour inspire a great many practical jokes. Still, they rarely mean anything malicious. They're too jovial to harbour malice. These Gryffindors are likable extroverts, on good terms with practically everybody, and they generally do all right in the end. Many excellent Quidditch players come from this sign.
Bloodline: Muggleborn

Physical Description: Luke stands at about 6'1" and weighs around a lean 185 pounds, making him an athletically fit young man. His weight is mainly due to muscle, as he keeps in shape by all the various sports he plays, but he is not overly bulky, and though he could be considered long and lean, he is in by no means thin or skinny. Actually, he figures he is average, his body size a cross between that of a Quidditch Beater (the position he plays) and perhaps a running back (in American football). He has dark brown hair, which he keeps cut short, and brown eyes. He thinks of them as just plain brown and rather ordinary, and wouldn't use adjectives such as "deep", "chocolate", or "coffee-coloured".
PB: Sam Way

Personality:
Luke is an extremely extroverted individual, his boldness and bravery sometimes falling into the category of foolishness (although this was more prominent when he was younger). He is the type to try at least everything once no matter the danger, as he expects to live life to its fullest. As such, he enjoys spending time outside, whether it be stalking into the Forbidden Forest or flying around at the Quidditch pitch. He is quite athletic -he would have to be after running around with his older brother so often- and during the school years, he plays Beater for the Gryffindor team (and has since third year); the summers are not as high-paced for him, but he enjoys rugby and football (aka soccer to the Americans) with his muggle friends.

In class, he often speaks up, even if he is wrong; he feels it is better to learn he was wrong than to be quiet and continue believing he was right. On the flip side, this means he will also contradict professors if he feels they've made a mistake. He's good to debate with, although he does so in good fun. He never means to insult anyone's intelligence, as his own is not that of a genius, and he generally gets along with most people. He knows he's smart to a certain extent, but he is confident enough in himself to admit to not being the smartest in his class or in his group of friends. He studies hard -although after a bit of prodding to tone down- to maintain his grades, and after Hogwarts, he is thinking about applying to the Auror or Hit Wizard programs. He might not have the mentality for either (he knows that depends on the supervisors of such programs, as well as how he shapes up during his last year at Hogwarts) but he will try his best.

With his family and friends, he is loud and boisterous. Mainly to get a laugh, or to tease (although if he hits certain nerves, he will back off because he doesn't mean to hurt anyone), as well as to keep the conversation going. Silence irks him, as he is not used to it; growing up in a family of six tends to do that to oneself, and even sharing a room with four other boys plays into that. When he studies, he needs to have background noise and can't begin to concentrate if it is silent.

As for his temper, he always jokes it's "luke warm" and not necessarily the hot headedness that Saggitarius Gryffindors are known for. This comes from his family upbringing, since being red-faced and huffy rarely resulted in good favours from his parents. He is basically tolerant to little annoyances (he does have three siblings) but if anyone were to insult his friends or his family, he would be quick to defend them, even if that might not be the most rational thing to do. This accounts for many of the fights he has had in the past, because he doesn't take kindly to bullies.

Personal History:
As the second of two sons and the third child out of four born to Winifred Pershing and Ashton Spencer, Lucas (nicknamed Luke) Spencer grew up Conwy, North Wales. His family life was always bustling with activities, his siblings close knit to one another - never more than two years separating their ages - even if they teased or argued with themselves, as their mother was a seamstress at their local taylor's while their father was the primary bread winner, working in construction as a structural engineer. Once in a while, the Spencer family had to tighten their belts (which Luke always jokes as a trait they learned from their mother) but for the most part, they lived within their means, their love and good nature usually persevering above any bumps in the road.

His primary schooling was normal for a muggle child, full of bruises and mishaps (how was he to know that a can of soda would explode in the freezer?), and though he was disciplined for most of his behavior (if indeed it was bad behavior), it never dampened his spirits. Perhaps it was because he suffered "middle child syndrome" and felt he needed to act wild and crazy to gain his parents' attention; but if he was asked, he would say he never thought about it that way. It was more of a camaraderie with his older brother, Derek, as they often tormented their older sister, Bridget, who tried to be the responsible one. They teased their little sister, Kaitlyn, as well, but not to the same extreme. Where Bridget received water balloons and mud pies, Kaitlyn received tugs on her pigtails and a mountain of candy to make her stomach ache. That didn't mean his sisters were nonparticipants; they gave as good as they got (snakes in a bed? That would be their prank on him, and could be the reason why he is afraid of those reptiles although he won't admit to it), and because of that, he respected girls in the same way as boys and did not think they couldn't do the same things as boys. The only exception was his protectiveness towards them and his family, as he was physically stronger than his sisters and was willing to punch any bullies they might encounter.

Early signs of magic in his blood did not display themselves in extraordinary events like being able to heal wounds or fix broken lamps (although he really wished he could have done either or both). They manifested themselves into his ability to run a tad quicker than his schoolmates, to dodge balls with better precision, and generally having a bit of "luck" in his escapades. He never thought he was a wizard, and when he received his Hogwarts acceptance letter in the summer of his eleventh year, he thought it was a practical joke from his brother. Thus, he wrote a charming letter of thanks back to this "magical school" and started a series of correspondence with them, just to see how long the joke would play. It wasn't until his parents caught on to those letters and received one from Eton College expressing their disappointment that their son chose to attend another school, that they realized the letters were real. They had a son who was a wizard, and despite their initial discomfort at the idea of sending him to a school without his brother or sisters, they decided to let him explore the opportunity.

When he reached Hogwarts following the long train ride from London to Hogsmeade, he felt in awe at his surroundings, as well as a little confused at the house designations and colours. His brother had mentioned different houses in Eton as well, but the structure seemed different at Hogwarts. After hearing the Sorting Hat's song, he had no problems in deciding that he wanted to be a Gryffindor and the Sorting Hat agreed. He possessed the rather rash behavior of Gryffindors -often acting before thinking (although in his later years, he learned to control that)- and was rather bold and gutsy in his pranks. He never meant any harm, his pranks tending towards humour rather than malicious intent.

As the years passed, he made friends and enemies in different houses, his extroverted nature welcoming both into his social circle. He fell in love once during his sixth year, only to have his heart broken when his then-girlfriend cheated on him with another student. However, it didn't make him more careful into diving into other relationships, nor move his heart from off his sleeve. Try, try again would be his motto for that as well as life. After all, life was bound to have ups and downs, and if he didn't enjoy himself despite the pitfalls, he wouldn't be Luke Spencer.

Classes: His current classes include Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Potions, Transfiguration, Care of Magical Creatures, Divination, and the mandatory Muggle Studies. His strongest classes are Transfiguration, Charms, and Defense; he does average in most of his other classes. Since he knew Potions was recommended for the Auror and Hit Wizard programs, he had to study extremely hard to pull of his OWL in Potions (because he knew Slughorn would only accept students with an E or an O for the NEWT level class); otherwise, he might have received an A. His worst classes are Astronomy, History, and Herbology, which he dropped after fifth year. If Muggle Studies wasn't mandatory, he would not be taking it either as he figures he's muggleborn, so he already knows about muggles.

OWL scores:
Astronomy - A
Charms - E
Defense Against the Dark Arts - E
Herbology - A
History of Magic - A
Potions - E
Transfiguration - O
Care of Magical Creatures - E
Divination - A
Muggle Studies - O
